Curved glass lamp replacement panels

Bent glass lamp panels      Slag glass replacement panels are custom made in my studio. The slag glass is available flat or custom bent to match your existing curved lamp glass panel size and profile. While some people feel they can find a matching panel on Ebay or sitting on a shelf at an antique shop. The odds are near impossible because there were so many glass manufacturers in the early 1900’s making many slag glass lamp styles.

     For a perfect fit I require CURVED lamp glass metal shades to be shipped to me for many reasons.   While sending just a panel can be cost effective it can also be problematic and cost you more.  Understand most of my restoration work includes bent metal work and re wiring 110 year old lamps.  Many of which have had past repairs and modifications.

  • CURVED lamp glass panels were hand made which meant not every panel fit in every spot.  Often original panels had to be modified to fit
  • The metal frame arms and edges in most cases is also damaged
  • Clients may not have the skills or tools to remove and install replacement panels
  • Tabs are missing, off center or falling off
  • Tab style offers no forgiveness
  • Original curved lamp glass panels may be bent in two directions
  • In some cases production panels were not fully bent or perfect
  • Brass U channel is wrapped around the curved lamp glass panels
  • Not all original panels are perfect to start with (picture below)

     While other glass repair people may not like spending 2 hours unboxing and re boxing shades. I don’t mind it and don’t charge extra. Sending me the lamp shade ensures you will not have installation issues or the risk of breaking the glass if installing it yourself. It’s just not worth the risk to save a few dollars on shipping. Again I’m here to perform quality work for clients that want the best restoration work.

      FLAT slag glass panels tend to be easier to remove and install in most cases.  In most cases I do not require FLAT slag glass metal shades to be shipped.  But I do require an original panel to be sent to me.  I’m unable to work off an email description size, a paper drawing or a traced paper pencil pattern.  By sending your flat glass panel to me I will have a chance to identify the color, texture, and density of the glass.  I can also use it to make a perfect copy size less 1/16th.  Prior to sending me your original flat slag glass panel I will ask you to test fit it in the spot of the missing panel.  Again not all frames are straight and tabs are not on center.
